The Story of a Regiment Being a Narrative of the Service of the Second Regiment Minnesota Veteran Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War of 1861 to 1865
Published in Paperback by North Star Associates (01 October, 2000)
Authors: Judson W. Bishop, Newell L. Chester, and Newell L Chester
Average review score:

Enhanced for the reader with a history of Judson Bishop
Ably edited by Newell L. Chester for the modern reader, The Story Of A Regiment is the narrative account and history by Judson W. Bishop of the Minnesota Veteran Volunteer Infantry's Second Regiment that fought all through the Civil War from 1861 to 1865. This superbly presented edition is enhanced for the reader with a history of Judson Bishop and additional and informative chapters by Chester. This was a Union Army regiment that was awarded eight Medals of Honor for one action near Nolansville, Tennessee; participated in the first major Union victory at Mill Springs, Kentucky; charged up Missionary Ridge out of Chattanooga, Tennessee; earned General George Thomas acclimation as "The Rock of Chickamauga". The Second Regiment fought all four, bloody years of the Civil War and finally returned home to Minnesota intact. The Story Of A Regiment is an invaluable, much appreciated, and very welcome addition to Civil War Studies collections, and "must" reading for all Civil War buffs.

Sullivan's Hollow
Published in Paperback by University Press of Mississippi (December, 1992)
Author: Chester Sullivan
Average review score:

Pure Anecdotal Goodness
This book reviews the history of a place that doesn't even exist to the rest of the world. I happen to live half an hour from the Hollow, and it fits the typical description of the "reputation" of the people that live there today.

If you like reading historical writings, I highly recommend this.

Author: Terry Wieland
Average review score:

Covers the man, his work, and hunting in Africa
A View From A Tall Hill is an outstanding, unique selection for any avid reader of safari hunting material in general and for those already familiar with Robert Ruark's safari writings in particular. Ruark was an author, columnist, and hunter in the latter 20th century: though his career lasted less than fifteen years, he traveled extensively throughout Africa and produced newspaper reports which enlightened the world. His biography covers the man, his work, and the special attractions of hunting in Africa. Lively and revealing.

A Way of Desert Spirituality: The Plan of Life of the Hermits of Bethlehem, Chester, New Jersey
Published in Paperback by Alba House (November, 1998)
Author: Eugene L. Romano
Average review score:

A simple to understand book on the eremetical life.
I myself have read a few books on christian monasticism, including many by Thomas Merton. This book I found to be thoroughly enjoyable. It is basicaly the Plan of Life for these Hermits. It is a christian book. It speaks alot about the influence of the Desert Fathers on their plan of life. This is a book of Desert Spirituality. It discusses some basic and simple elements to the eremetical life. I dont think anyone grounded in the christian faith will have much trouble understanding the ideas in this book. And for those fans of the Desert Fathers this book is a must read. It was a peaceful and prayerful book.

WE MUST TAKE CHARGE!

Author: Chester Finn

Finn is an Education Visionary
For the past 20 years, Chester Finn has been a behind the scenes and in some cases, in front of the crowd leader for most of the great education reforms that have occurred in the past 20 years. Having had the great fortune to be one of Finn's students at Vanderbilt many years ago, I have had a chance to read the plethora of great books and articles that Finn has published. This is another in that series. Don't just buy this book and The Educated Child (which apparently is a huge bestseller) go back and buy all his books. Finn is a great academic who is blessed with an ability to communicate to the common person.

Finn may talk about the education that children receive but he is the best educator a parent can ever find. We are expecting our first grandchild in a few weeks and I want my daughter to read every book that Professor Finn ha written. It will ensure the success of my grandchild's future.

The Wonder Horse
Published in Paperback by Brick House Books (December, 2000)
Author: Chester Wickwire
Average review score:

American Champion of Civil Rights
Chester's second book of poetry surpasses his first and is a wonderful read. He has something to say about the morals of America and he says it with zeal and authority. He has been the champion of the civil rights movement in the US for far longer than most of us have been around. His poem "Generations" will strike a vibrant chord in everyone's hearts. All of his poems have the ability to make you think and wonder how this fine gentleman can bring such clarity to vexing questions.
